5 NLP Techniques for Improving Student Learning Outcomes

1. Reframing:

Reframing is a technique that involves changing the way a problem or situation is perceived or described in order to change its perceived meaning. In the context of student learning, reframing can be used to help students understand a concept or problem in a different way, making it more accessible or easier to understand. For example, a math teacher might reframe a difficult concept in terms of a real-world problem that the student can relate to, or a language teacher might reframe a grammar rule in terms of a common idiom.

2. Anchoring: 

Anchoring is a technique that involves associating a new idea or skill with something that is already familiar to the student. This can help the student to understand the new material by connecting it to something they already know, and also make it more memorable. For example, a history teacher might anchor a new historical event to a current event that the student is already familiar with, or a science teacher might anchor a new scientific concept to a familiar object or phenomenon.


3. Submodalities: 

Submodalities refer to the specific characteristics of our thoughts, feelings, and memories, such as the images we see in our mind, the sounds we hear, the feelings we experience, and so on. By working with submodalities, NLP practitioners can help students to change the way they think about a topic or problem, making it more manageable or less distressing. For example, a student who is struggling with math might be encouraged to change the way they see numbers in their mind from black and white,to colorful, and by doing so will be more able to work with them.

4. Modelling:

Modelling is a technique that involves observing and studying the behaviour of successful people in order to replicate their behaviour or skills. In the context of student learning, modelling can be used to help students develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that they need to succeed. For example, a student who wants to improve their writing skills might study the writing of a well-known author, or a student who wants to become a better public speaker might study the speaking techniques of an effective orator.

5. Parts Integration: 

This technique refers to the ability to bring different aspects or elements of a concept or skill together, to see how they fit and relate to each other. In the context of student learning, parts integration can help students to understand complex concepts or skills by breaking them down into smaller, more manageable parts, and then showing them how the parts fit together to form a whole. For example, a student learning a new programming language might start by learning the syntax, then move on to understanding how different elements of the language are used to create a program, and finally bring it all together to understand how the language works as a whole.

These are some of the most widely used NLP techniques for improving student learning outcomes, however, it is important to note that every student is different and therefore the applicability and effectiveness of these techniques may vary from student to student. It is always best to consult with a professional or expert when using NLP techniques in a student learning context.
